At Least Do Your Laundry – Traveling Trails 12

Daily writing prompt
What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?

“Laundry! There’s no time for that!”

Blackout!

Blurred female voice assembles. “Like that 70’s show”

She wakes up on an old couch sunk in, her arms weak as if she couldn’t move.

“What’s that smell?” she whispered.

“What’s a 70’s show?” asks a male voice.

“Can you imagine the 70s! That was like what year?” asks a different girl’s voice.

“Umm 1970?” sarcastically replies a male voice.

“How many years was that?” the girl asks.

Why can she not get them to hear her and why can’t she move was running through her mind. Where is she was the next question. Who was talking and really, what is a 70’s show? Every thought stopped and she yelled “what is that smell?”

Silence.

Change scenes, darkness followed by flashes of light and mini clips of a ceiling as she hears the following:

“Are you sure you want to deal with her? She really smells you know. This has got to be the oldest thing she has ever wore. Does she ever take it off?Same shirt same shorts every day? Like a cartoon character? Eager to leave this one and she is not decent. Far from decent. She reeks! Turn that corner right there.

Back to original scene

“Hellooo!” snaps one of the girl’s. “Who are you and why are you laying on my couch?”

“You let strays in your house?” asks a male voice.

“She is not a stray and she is not a cat Michael!”

She rubs her head as feeling a migraine that won’t stop and realizes she is able to move her right arm at least. She looks around wondering where she is. What was that other voice she just heard. She looks to the left and wonders. Everyone in the group who had their eyes locked on her is now looking up and to the right in silence trying to figure out what she is looking at.

“Does she realize we are here and we are looking at her?”

“And asking her who she is!” demands the male voice.

“Back off. She might be coming down from something” defends one of the female voices.

“From the smells of it, she has been out of it for a while.” remarks the other female voice.

What is real? Which one of these realties is real? Is it all a dream? She squints her face as she asks herself all these questions. Takes a long blink and realizes they are all staring at her. How much did they see, she asks herself as her eyes roll to the right while observing them staring at her and her eye movements. She must be making odd expression she thought to herself as she kept tuning out their questions even though she was looking right at them. She passes out.

Change scenes, darkness followed by flashes of light and mini clips of a ceiling as she hears the following:

“What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?” asks a male voice.

“Besides the point. How long have you guys been traveling? At least do your laundry.” replies another man.

Back to original scene

Blurred female voice assembles. “That 70s show is some show that would come on cable tv”

“It’s more than half a century ago!” states a male voice.

“Haha, that’s funny, they actually had a guy named Michael on the show!” the blurred girl replies.

“Hey excuse me, who are you?” asks the different girl.

She gets startled and wakes up in a panic.

Change scenes, darkness followed by flashes of light and mini clips of a ceiling.

She looks to the floor and sees Leo laying on the floor face up, passed out. She wonders what’s behind the next door…
