How Music Became Much More

Explore when songs became projects

The interesting part to me

is that the music stopped being background for the artwork. It became part of the artwork itself. Each song, each album, artistically designed. Each project, whether Single, EP or album, required an “album cover” or design to represent the song or project.

This is where my mind said “no problem there” in finding artwork for the music. I have artwork from many different styles, topics, and purposes on different mediums, and at least in photo form for digital distribution.

Let me walk you through the process of selecting a design sometimes.

I would call it co-creating.

Or

Happy accidents if you like.

The song or album is about what?

I don’t feel I answer that question in the form of sitting down, jotting ideas, canceling some, select a few till best answer is found. Instead, I ask a question as simple as that. And probably a way I arrived to the title of the album too. So let’s say for example, the current album out on wavlake, giving listeners opportunity to zap some sats. If you know you know.

And if you know you know

Hints for other uses in other projects. So the album there and released on the distribution of YouTube, Spotify, and friends, is entitled Airbrush Mixed ArtMusic

So what is this album about?

Airbrush, art and music that is mixed and remixed, mixed together.

So what would be a good album cover?

I don’t know but in front of me is 3 canvases. I put a forth and it makes a collection of Airbrush Artwork, mixed media, mixed topics. It was also without knowing in the beginning, my introduction to that astronaut. The space man is in a stance where he looks “shocked” I think is my best way of describing it. Who knows what the character actually saw to have him in that stance at that moment. But for me, it was like “What? An Airbrush? Mixed. Art and Music. Do those things mix? They don’t… How do they get mixed?”

The Astronaut appears again

“What? Part two? And it’s Mixed up too? How? Fast and slow too?” Because for quite a few recent releases, the songs have been themed and cross-promoted each other. But stayed on topic. Chakra Battle Slowdown series, Aviation-themed series, and Zodiac Battle of the Year

This album appears

With Spaceman again. Behind another “Airbrush Sunrise” in the background. Airbrush Mixed Up ArtMusic Part Two (Fast and Slow Too)

It wasn’t planned this way from beginning to end, first album to next. It just became part of its own story. Became part of the art.

“And I came to this understanding”

I enjoy creating collections. Music is one ingredient of the formula. Artwork is another form. Stories are another part of the formula. Titles are another. Album Cover, another form. Videos. Client work.

They are all pieces of the same collection.

Continuations

As the example above, a poem becomes a song. A song becomes part of an album. An album becomes part of a larger narrative. The narrative inspires another project years later.

The earlier work doesn’t disappear. It becomes the foundation for whatever comes next.

So it is not about reinventing myself each time. It’s about allowing the next project to grow naturally out of the previous while carrying pieces of earlier versions along the journey. The remix. The remix of the remix. Ai version of one of the versions remixed with the original sound. Later maybe an ai video interpretation. Same story, different times and ways to express it.

And now doing ‘lives’ on ShoSho with a small selection of Canvas Airbrush Artwork to add to a collector’s art gallery.

The Story was already being written

“scarred and wounded but keep going.”

ICT – DJ Lexo

At first I thought each connection was that. A set of songs compiled into an album telling a story from beginning to end. Sometimes to be continued.

Intentionally

And sometimes naturally continued after revisists.

Years later, I started realizing several connections and all connected.

The conversations I had with myself as a teenager became lyrics. Poems saying “scarred and wounded but keep going.” Those lyrics became songs.

I wasn’t starting over every time.

I was continuing something that had already begun.

That’s when another realization surfaced.

I do really enjoy making music.

But even more than that. I enjoy watching ideas grow. One thought becomes a poem. A poem becomes a song. A song becomes part of something larger.

And before I know it, another project has already begun.

I stopped worrying about separating the artist, the musician, the writer, or the storyteller. They had always been working together. I was just now beginning to recognize it.

And when I travel to the past…

I can see

The story was already written.

The poems describe a set of adventures, struggles, trials and tribulations that happened and would happen. They had a message to give, “It’s all about you.” With an interesting question in the front cover, “Life, is it just a game?”

A journey trying to answer that question.

Writing dramatic events into my life.

And how I overcame those tough moments.

I tried writing rap songs with my daughter to teach hard lessons.

And hard lessons we learned, but we learned to stay united as family

And then I decided to write what I truly desired.

What a powerful question

Careful how you answer, writer. Recall what you have learned. “Learn From My Mistakes” was your song speaking to you. Respond to what you desire. Not what you do NOT desire.

So this is the Creative Spark that I ignited on the blog with the title itself paraphrasing the response to the question calling it Airbrushes & Airplanes

My journey as a writer began before this new era of creating music that began with signing up with DistroKid. So that was my initial statement. I desired to be an airbrush artist, an airplane pilot and a writer that gets paid to journal my journey by each. Create generational wealth and Financial Literacy lessons to learn for my descendants. And with the world.

“Two teach four, teach forever more.”

ICT – DJ Lexo

The first writing books that I printed in this new era were, believe it or not, blank pages. Starting fresh with new ideas. And here we are today.

One idea led to the next.

When I began these projects I remember I asked my friend Sean “If you had grandchildren, what message would you send to them? How would you send it? “

He said that’s deep and he had no idea. I told him that they are trying to ban books, could you do it through music? If you did, what would you say?

I started with All About U. And then uploaded some of my older music first.

And from there.

The story continues to be written.

I eventually realized they were never separate pieces. A poem could become a song. A song could become part of an album. An album could inspire another project years later. Even client artwork, videos, album covers and stories all become part of the same collection.

Nothing wasted.

Everything found its place eventually.

Sometimes they become songs.

Sometimes they become artwork.

Sometimes they become stories.

Sometimes they become something I never expected.

Sometimes is the name of a song as well.

Remember, Its’ All About You

For a long time, it was interpreted the finished song was the destination. Now it seems different. A finished song often becomes the beginning of the next idea. Sometimes that next idea arrives a week later. Sometimes a decade or two. I’ve learned creativity has its own timing.

Some lessons aren’t fully understood until you return to them years later. Some words written by a teenager still have something to teach the person reading them today.

Maybe that’s why I keep creating.

Not because I have every answer…

But because every project teaches me something I didn’t know before.

And if all of this sounds like it happened overnight….

It didn’t.

Like most journeys, it started much smaller than anyone would have imagined.

It started from the bottom.
